A Desktop UI for Zoho Services

One of the nice things about the holiday season (besides family, friends and gifts!) is that business slows down a bit and there is time for side projects. A couple of our employees felt like experimenting and they created a Desktop-like UI for all of our Zoho services. We now have more than 20 different products that allow businesses to "Work Online", so this is a natural extension. You'd be surprised that this UI was not created by Zoho employees, but by ManageEngine employees (ManageEngine is a Zoho Corp division that allows IT professionals to monitor and manage servers, networks, applications, etc).

So here it is: You can go to myzpc.com and access it with your Zoho credentials. Once you login you'll notice this is pretty similar to your Desktop UI. There are windows, there's a "Zoho Home" drop-down button that you can use to launch the different Zoho applications and there's a task/status bar as well. You can move the windows, resize them, switch between apps, etc.

Please note this is not an official Zoho product - it's not supported and, as with any experiment, you should expect some bugs here and there. You can consider this more like a fan/third-party release (a very interesting one!).

For those of you who like the idea of easily switching between Zoho applications in the same browser window, we've been offering this for quite some time through our Zoho Business service (albeit not with the PC desktop similarity).

Hope you continue to enjoy the holidays. Happy 2010 from all of us at Zoho.

  1. My one (mild) discontent with Zoho has been the "all blue" theme/skins (lines, boxes, text, hyperlinks) for nearly all its forms. Although they are elegant, the colors clash with our company colors and website design. So we've been trying to find a way to customize as much as possible the Zoho Business (and apps) look and feel more like our website's design--with no success so far. Then comes along this sleek UI from ManageEngine. Not only is it appealing, it shows that Zoho's presentation can be customized.Even though the colors of the UI here are very close to what we need, there are some things we'd like to customize on this UI. Is there a way to get at the html?

  3. This is a great UI.Like to see this as a supported version, it will be great if it goes that way.Probably a few suggestions. if it does…1. The User to be able to change the wallpaper to business preference.
    2. Add applications as in Zoho Business.Being in the design/branding field this UI is quite easy to use and navigate in which advocates 'a great experience'.The UI is quite clean, and doesn’t barrage nor confuse the user with so much information.Zoho will you be implementing this as a supported solution in the near future - I shall hope so.Keep up the great work!Cheers

  9. Experimental, beta, un-supported it may be, but it's still *very* nice work. I like the business.zoho desktop, but this GUI version would certainly make the desktop-to-cloud move easier for some of the timid users among us.

  11. This is a great method of introducing web functionality (or soon to be Web OS) to those who aren't ready to migrate away from a desktop OS.
