When it comes to building and distributing software, both development and testing go hand in hand. To put that in project management terms, both tasks and bugs go hand in hand. A developer has a set of tasks to be ticked off before a feature can be released. And during the development stages, code issues are discovered either by the developer or by the tester and are logged as bugs. But the problem is that there’s no way to relate tasks and bugs, making it difficult for a project tracker to know which bugs affect the completion of which tasks. Here is where we come in and give you our new Task and Bug Linking feature that couples your task management with bug tracking.
To understand this feature better, meet James and Christa. James has been working on a task: developing a chat application. As he completes each module, Christa tests the module for accuracy and efficiency. As the testing proceeds, she comes across a hiccup. When she starts a chat, she finds her name listed among the available friends. Obviously, Christa doesn’t want to chat with herself. So here’s what she does. She clicks on the task that James is working on and finds the Bugs tab.
She selects the tab and clicks on “Associate bugs.” Here she quickly adds the “I don’t want to talk to myself” bug and gives a description of the bug. This way it’s a whole lot easier for both James and Christa to track the relationship between their tasks and bugs.
This works the other way around, too. Christa can add the bug first and then associate it to James’ task from the Bug Info view.
One to one mapping between tasks and bugs— will that suffice for all your project needs? James and Christa raise their eyebrows at the thought of it. “If only software development were that straight forward!” they exclaim in unison. Since it’s not, we let you link as many bugs as you want with as many tasks to suit what you need. You can also choose to get a notification when you try to close a task that has open bugs associated with it. Navigate to “Org Settings” and you will find it under Portal Configuration.
You can read about this feature in detail here. Join James and Christa in trying out this feature, and tell us what you think. If you have questions or need more assistance, you can also contact us by sending an email to support@zohoprojects.com.
Zoho, you're killing the game! All these new innovative ideas and how your mail looks now is phenomenal! Your prices are extremely reasonable as well. Couldn't be happier with you guys.
Thank you for the update.
You're welcome, Calvin. Do give this a spin and let us know your feedback.
