Introducing dynamic knowledge-based authentication (KBA) in Zoho Sign

Steering clear of fraudsters is a big challenge for businesses dealing with digital transactions. As a consequence, identity verification has become an essential step in any digital agreement process. Authenticating the identity of signers when you send out documents for signing helps prevent unauthorized access to critical documents. It also ensures businesses comply with all applicable regional and international regulations.

On that note, we are happy to announce that we have added dynamic knowledge-based authentication (KBA) to the list of identity verification methods available in Zoho Sign! With dynamic KBA, businesses can assure a higher level of identity assurance.

What is dynamic knowledge-based authentication?

Knowledge based-authentication involves verifying the signer's identity by posing questions based on the personal information they provide. This is also called static KBA. Dynamic KBA is a more sophisticated version of this approach.

With dynamic KBA, the signer's identity is verified through "out-of-wallet" questions. These questions are generated in real time using information obtained from various sources, like public credit bureau records and public demographic data.

Example questions:

  • What street did you previously live on?
  • From whom did you buy the property on ABC Road?
  • Between 2006 and 2011, which state did you reside in?
  • Which of these countries did you visit recently?
  • Which number goes with your address on XYZ Avenue?

Dynamic KBA is already used by many businesses around the world for identity verification, helping them tackle identity theft while meeting compliance requirements.

Benefits of dynamic KBA

  • Protects sensitive data and prevents it from falling into the wrong hands.
  • Provides a higher level of security.
  • Helps ensure compliance with regulations.
  • Prevents misrepresentation of the signer by posing questions that are unpredictable and not easily answered by malicious actors.

Dynamic KBA via IDology in Zoho Sign

Zoho Sign has partnered with IDology, a leading global identity verification and document authentication platform, to offer dynamic knowledge-based authentication to users based in our US data center. As a part of this authentication process, signers enter their name, address, year of birth, and the last four digits of their social security number when trying to access documents sent to them via Zoho Sign. This information is then sent to IDology, which generates questions based on matching information available in public records. It then authenticate the signer by validating their answers.
