Google Gears is on a roll with Gmail rolling out offline capability. When we launched Zoho Mail with offline capability based on Google Gears last year, Zoho Mail was the only email application that used Google Gears for offline support. Now, we have good company with Gmail.
Gmail with 100 Million+ users will only expand the install base for Gears which I think is good for web applications. Apart from offline capabilities, there are other interesting usecases for Gears, which will only expand over time. Apart from its inclusion Google Chrome, we hope Gears be included in Firefox too. I am not too optimistic on IE including Gears though, but this is where Gmail offline helps in expanding the install base of Google Gears.
Here are some of the apps that use Google Gears. I am sure I am missing some, feel free to add them to the list.
Creator App is here.
Congrats to Gears & Gmail teams on this important milestone.
