Introducing Zoho Books. Accounting Software for Small & Medium Businesses

Here’s the new addition to the growing Zoho portfolio: Accounting. We are extremely excited to announce the immediate availability of our online book keeping application,
Zoho Books.

If you follow Zoho closely, you probably saw this coming. Over the past 5 years, we added one application after the other to build a comprehensive suite of online collaboration, business and productivity applications. The idea was simple. We want to build a suite of applications for small & medium business, so they can run their entire business on Zoho. If you looked at our portfolio of products, there was one significant missing piece, accounting. Today, we can almost call our suite “complete”.

What is Zoho Books?

Zoho Books
is an online accounting application that gives you complete visibility of your finances and helps you manage the money moving in and out of your business. Zoho Books can simply be defined as “accounting for rest of us”. You need not be an accountant to manage your business and make informed financial decisions.

Here are some of the highlights of Zoho Books:

    Money In

Get a clear picture of how much money your business is generating. Manage your customers and invoice them either online or by mail. Automate recurring invoices, payment reminders and payment thank-you notes. Get paid faster with our online payment gateways.

    Money Out

Manage and control your expenses and cash outflow. Record invoices and commitments for purchases, services and even for reimbursable expenses like client travel. Keep track of the outstanding balances with each one of your vendors and pay on time.

    Banking and Credit Cards

Record and monitor your bank and credit card transactions like deposits, fund transfers, checks, expenses, credits and refunds. Easily reconcile them with your bank and credit card statements.

    Take On the World

Transact globally with our multi-currency capabilities. Record foreign currency invoices and expenses. Plus, Zoho Books goes with you wherever you go, so your business is always one click away from you, regardless where you are.

    Real-Time Collaboration

Share -or delegate- the accounting duties to anyone in your organization, but set different permissions for you and your employees. Get professional help with your accounting by easily sharing your books with your accountant or financial adviser.

Stay on Top of Your Business

Glance through the dashboard to know what’s going well with your business and what’s not. Make smart and quick business decisions with the help of our insightful, available-anywhere reports.

The application

offers lot more. It also integrates with other Zoho Apps. For example, you can import your contacts from Zoho CRM, view data from various modules in Zoho Sheet etc.
A comprehensive integration between CRM and other Zoho Apps is coming down the road.

In particular, Zoho Invoice customers will be able to seamlessly migrate from Zoho Invoice to Zoho Books – and go beyond invoicing to full-blown accounting without having to start over.

This launch is not just for Zoho users.

Zoho Books is also immediately available for Google Apps users through the

Google Apps Marketplace
.

Pricing

Zoho Books is priced at $24/month (or $240/year with a 2 month discount). This includes access for 2 users. If you’d like to provide access for additional users, it’ll be an additional $5/user/month.

We have been working very hard on this app for a while now and we are extremely excited to unveil this today. We hope you’ll like the app and we can’t wait to hear your feedback.

  1. I love Zoho for my small business but I would like to purchase the software outright. As a small business we are not able to afford the costly monthly fee associated with this app.

  2. Looking at the site I did not see a payroll application in the "cash out" side. I think this is one area most business owners worry about getting right. Also I agree the pricing issue would hold back small business from migrating to Zoho.

  4. It is interesting that Zoho now charges a monthly subscription for just about anything the rest of the industry offers for free. Mostly focused on Zoho CRM features, but Zoho Books is a close second. If you think about it, you literally spend more in subscription rates to Zoho for software and services that are open sources are available through other industry leading vendors at no cost.I like that way that Zoho connects all the dots, but they need to have business "packages" allowing companies to subscribe to a group of services, rather that individual. If I subscribed to everything I need, I would be paying $99/mo per user. Ouch! I am a start-up, so to pay $300/mo for services that are free and more feature rich somewhere else, and fully integrate without additional fees is more attractive.

  6. Great software. My company is considering getting an accounting software and we are impressed with what you have here. But I must agree with the other posters it is a bit expensive. I will show this to my superiors and see what they think. Thank you

  8. I agree it's a bit too expensive. The product is one price - $24/month - for businesses that bring in millions and businesses like mine that might bring in a couple thousand a month. It would be nice to have a less expensive option, then I would switch over.

  10. RE: Cloud Supporter -
Financials are a much bigger hurdle to cross when it comes to cloud-based applications.
We are rabid advocate of cloud SaaS apps. In fact, we offer two such applications for our clients as well. But once you cross the threshold of having a SaaS manage your books, the due diligence escalates tremendously. What standards do they follow; what security is in place; are my transactions encrypted across the pipeline; do they follow FASB rules; is their facility SAS70 compliant; how accurate are the calculations and reporting mechanisms; etc. etc.Nuf said. Buyers beware... it's best to have bleeding-edgers go through the pain of testing this new app out before you trust your day-to-day money management to it.

  12. We're a small (24) person company, and use Zoho for Business Pro (mail, docs, etc.), CRM, and Projects.
We like Zoho, however the pricing model for Zoho Books is way off compared to better known alternatives, at least in the USA. We've been using Quickbooks for a long, long time, and considering the functionality and price point, Zoho Books is way off the mark.
We might consider moving to Zoho Books if the feature-to-feature comparison was fairly good, and the price point was at about $5 to $8 per month. As others have pointed out, Quickbooks software is a fully-vetted financial package that provides extensive functionality for a price around $200 one-time charge, or $25/mo for a slimmer online version.
Trusting a new player, like Zoho, with no track record as far as full-blown financials, with a price point at or above the proven players, is truly a folly.

  14. On comparisons of pricing with the desktop-based QuickBooks, I think Zoho Books is fairly priced.

Owning a desktop based version of a software actually takes more than what many people realize. One has to factor in the following things too - you have to maintain the software and the data storage, what if there's a disk crash, what if the laptop where you installed the app and where all your data is gets stolen, the number of software patches to keep the software up-to-date, keeping your computer free from viruses etc.

Cloud/SAAS providers make sure you as a small business owner need not worry about such things. You just pay a nominal monthly fee, carry on with your core business activities and not worry about maintaining your software/data.

  16. Actually I do not think it's that expensive. Less costly is always preferred, but if you work long enough with Zoho Apps (Especially CRM, but also Invoice) your will be willing to overlook the costs compared to possible future integrations. It's weird that this most important Apps is the last piece in the puzzle. Then again, the puzzle is complete!MARVELLOUS!

  20. I would agree—too expensive for the entry level application when you can "own" a application outright for much less than a few months subscription. Yes; there are pros and cons to each but I've had my same accounting program for at least 5 years. If this was ~$8 month I'd switch to it. More and you make me think twice about total cost. Thank you!

  22. Another great leap forward by my favourite cloud-based Zoho.
Within my trade you're up against freeagent so I'll be checking through the functionality and price models of each.
I'll let you know the results when complete.
Keep pushing on. Your pace of innovation & development is amazing.

  24. I don't agree that it's too expensive. We (we're only little too) find zoho invoicing incredibly valuable and a huge time saver. When you break down the time spent on addressing the tasks manually compared to what a package can offer then 240/year is affordable. Admittedly I don't have any experience with QuickBooks so I'm not sure of costs.

  26. Congratulations on filling the gap, it is a needed service. But I don't get your business model in pricing. Quickbooks owns this market and you are coming up with a more expensive product that the trusted incumbent. Why should small businesses (which are your big supporters) shell out $240/yr, when they can pick up the software for less than that one a one time payment. Even the web version of Intuit is about the same cost.I really like what Zoho has done for the industry and small business. It is not easy to compete with Google and you have successfully done that. But your pricing strategy flies against what your marketplace desires. My advice would be to give away the 2-user version for free, and then charge $5 per additional user. It'll be hard to get companies move away from Quickbooks or try something different than tried and true. Don't make it harder for them to try your new and promising product.Keep on good products coming. I wish you the best of success.Jack

  28. I am sure the pricing is fine for large companies, but it is steep for the small guy. can't you have pricing for freelancers? like $5-7. Does anyone agree with me here?
